Reaction to the forum : Le concept ‘Maurice, île durable’ semble sombrer dans la routine. Que faut-il faire pour le relancer ?

I am afraid the ''''age of pessimism'' has arrived! Even if a billion Buddhas accompanied by the saints and prophets arrived on this Planet, they would not be able to help mankind. They would roar: "Who is responsible for this mess?" Mankind''s teeth (the toothless will suddenly find teeth in their mouths!) would start gnashing them in fear and humanity would throw itself at their feet and murmur meekly: "We are!" And the reply would be: "It is your Karma, a really bad one indeed, the Ultimate Karma - extinction!" Do I hear someone squeaked : "Could I have a BMW (the latest model) in the meantime please?" One cannot separate Mauritius from the big picture. Mauritius did not cause the financial crisis but cannot not escape it. When one buys a single paper clip every human being and every atom of the universe ''knows'' about it, is affected and makes the necessary adjustment. If I buy trillions and trillions of paper clips, the adjustment will be a seismic one. Every tourist leaves an indelible mark and puts pressure on our environment. Imagine what Mauritius will be like if ten million tourists visit the island every year. Every container that lands in Port Louis brings some pollution which is stashed (should I write hidden?) somewhere on the island. Increase their numbers, say, just a hundred times and one is instantly transformed into a pessimist! And this is only for a small nation.

Looking far far into the future, Mauritius is doomed. When the Africans next door start to make money as we started to do in the not too distant past, they will flock in their millions to spend some time in Mauritius. Most of the islands of the Indian Ocean will be consumed by the African locusts. After all, if you have money you will want to spend as much time as possible in the ''paradise'' nearby. And this is only the locusts from the East of us. Those from the North will be more voracious because they will go after part of our soul as well. If we close the doors to protect ourselves they will break them down and eat them too! The price of mankind''s lack of love for THAT which brought it into existence and sustained it, WILL be paid. There is no escape. There is no win-win situation . The latter exists only in the brains that concocted the illusion of MID. One cannot negotiate with Life.
