The Ponzi – related investigation conducted by the Police is throwing up sensational developments. Apart from the ‘notables’ who have been knowingly or otherwise roped into the financial quagmire, there are others who make a living from astrology. The meaning of astrology, according to the Oxford dictionary, is : the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies which can be interpreted by astrologers to influence human affairs.

An astrologer who is famous for predicting the future and who gives consultations about what the future holds for individuals was unable to know that the Whitedot and Sunkai schemes were mere stratagems to skim money from innocent unsuspecting people.

But surely an astrologer who professes to read into the future should have seen what was involved. There are two possibilities as to why he did not see what was in store for him. Either astrology is simple gibberish or he has failed to update himself about the new developments in this ‘science’. Imagine all those people who went to see him for foreknowledge and who must realize that they were taken for a celestial ride.

When we consider that so many of our compatriots fall for such guys and the ‘longanistes’ who cry on a thriving business, we cannot but despair or this country which is definitely not one for astrologers right now. If in fact these people who claim to know what is going to happen, why don’t they simply buy the winning LOTO tickets every week? I once had a client who was being prosecuted for swindling for doing what so-called astrologers do. When he asked me what was going to happen to him, I replied that, in view of his trade, he should be the one telling me that.

For once we are not alone in this situation. The USA had their Madoff who certainly was not that mad to rip off thousands of people. Recently again in the USA three women who had been kidnapped more than a decade ago were found alive. They had gone through a traumatic experience but their parents did as well. One of the parents contacted a psychic in order to know what had happened to their daughter. The psychic unreservedly announced that their daughter was dead.

One can imagine the pain of the parents on hearing such an opinion delivered on the authority of who went through all the rituals of remembrance etc. You may wish to know that psychics are supposed to have occult powers like clairvoyance. They market themselves as medium who can contact the dead.

Obviously the psychic got it wrong and the girl pronounced dead by the psychic is alive and recovering. The time has come to call the bluff of such people. Something good may yet come out of Ponzi in this country. There must be full transparence in what the investigation reveals. It should make no difference whether the culprits and the victims belong to the ‘high and mighty’ clique.

The end of the world has been predicted so many times by Nostradamus and his ilk. You know the facts.
