I have mulled a lot before writing an open letter to you. I love my country up to the inner core of my soul. Of course, my love for my country is not a visa to write to you an open letter. But I have always provoked thought or alternative thinking. So, let it be ‘MY WAY’.
I say very loudly that YOU MUST NOT GO.WHY?
Since independence you are the only person that has been able to unite all political parties around one theme. You are also uniting the nation as one people…. Congratulations for uniting all the political parties. As president, you have amply demonstrated that you are not a Lady for turning easily.
YOU MUST NOT GO because after uniting all the political parties you will sorely succeed in uniting the people of the Republic in refusing to submit to the will of the people and to resign. You have showed that you can be bent but like our sugar cane plants, you are cyclone resistant.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you are now a symbol of fallibility. Symbol that tails of corruption can sting any person whatever be his/her background.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you have been able to trigger a reaction from the individuals of the Republic, which is divorced from communal premises.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you will eventually cause the youngsters to think how to boo you in the most efficient & cost-effective way. The students will be ready. Thank you! New generation slogans will outshine the last generation.
YOU MUST NOT GO so that freedom of expression which includes freedom of the press will take deeper roots in the Mauritian culture & psyche.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you will catalyse the introduction of a very modern freedom of information bill and a bill for financing of political parties. From financing you to financing political parties is not a major step for the person you know or persons likewise.
YOU MUST NOT GO to allow your stay to become a pedagogical tool of what the Constitution is about & embolden the parties to think about a new Constitution.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you have confirmed that men and women are equal. Equal in dignity, rights, responsibilities but also prone to fall into the quagmires of the capitalist system. But if I were in your shoes, I would step down with immediate effect. And to ‘pay back’ for having betrayed the nation, I will give my lifetime pension to the NGOs fighting against cancer.
OR MUST YOU STAY to continue to tarnish our Republic and let the Republic be dogged by a constitutional crisis. On the other hand, are you there to stay so that the Government & all political parties continue to lose the confidence of the nation. Your continued stay will only serve to deepen the crisis of confidence and credibility of a nation. Do you wish to be found guilty by a tribunal of having failed to defend, uphold and respect the Constitution as the Supreme law of the land?
YOU MUST NOT GO so as to confirm that as a nation, we must not express too much hope that you will choose the path that is gaining unprecedented momentum, or must you choose not to go so that…
“There comes a time in the life of every nation when it must choose to submit or fight.”
While you ponder the contents of my open letter, the “Amicale Four” who are innocent are rotting in prison. At least their conscience is crystal clear.
YOU MUST NOT GO because you have a clear conscience…
