If you have been enthused by the live parliamentary debates on our small screens lately, we will certainly be in agreement that the thrill did not last. You may even wonder why the big fuss of live parliamentary coverage anyway. Questions time has derived into a weekly laughable event - of course not worthy of a parliament.

In the midst of all the uproar, names calling, swearing, vulgarity and repeated ‘I order you out’ you can barely hear any constructive arguments or contributions- actually for once doing the job they are paid for. How possible is this with such an uncivilised attitude? It is indeed true that many questions and interpellations have remained unanswered and without explanation. Due to the current shambolic and disordered atmosphere in parliament, Ministers rub hands with a sneer knowing they have yet again escape accountability.

We know the incompetence of this government and its inability to act and deliver; they are still not held to account. Government ministers get away with murder week after week not because they are tactical or savvy, but mainly due to a disjointed and incoherent opposition. It is obvious opposition parties are not synchronising their actions neither inside nor outside parliament. We find a weak Leader of the Opposition; not judging him by his supple methodology but rather obvious it is that he lacks certain charisma and energy. He reminds us of a Jeremy Corbyn who will never be Prime Minister under Her Majesty’s reign. Our opposition leader is now being presented as the future Prime minister.

What about our Madam Speaker?  Perhaps she needed that break to breathe after all. Her ability to maintain peace and impartiality in the House is questioned and rightly so. She does not captivate the attention of the house or the esteem of its members and she will continue to struggle to maintain order.

A constructive debate requires a sophisticated and cultured approach with a lot of respect, dignity and humility, which our parliamentarians are lacking. The live debate is more of a cabaret and mediocre display of Shakespearean ability to articulate rather than an opportunity to question and inform. Most individuals from both sides of the House do not deserve the privilege of representing the public. So, on this note we ‘Order you out’
