The Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) intends to extend its services. The national television will offer 12 new channels to subscribers as from next year. The management would like to launch the new service as from 12th March ? a symbolic date ? but it is not sure whether it will manage to do so. But there is no doubt that these changes will occur next year.

The chairman of the MBC, Fareed Jangeerkhan, has already stated his priorities as to the content of the new channels. Four projects are of particular interest for the public: a general knowledge channel ? with some time reserved for programmes by the Mauritius College of the Air ? a sports channel, a third one dedicated to cinema with the latest movies and an ?interactive? one for surfing on the Internet.

These channels will most probably be provided against increased licence fees. ?The content costs a lot and we can?t offer all these new channels at the same price? ? which is Rs 100 per month at the moment.
