Heather McGregor: “Mauritius is a good place to come”

Business Magazine is featuring on its cover, this week, the dean of Edinburgh Business School, who was in Mauritius recently to visit their local partner, Glamis Business School. In an interview, Heather McGregor comments on the country’s ambition to become a knowledge hub and gives insights on the world economic situation.

Mauritian people, she noted, are brought up to talk about numbers, adding that there is a really good business ethos in Mauritius, even down to the person running a snack shop. “There is a real sense of entrepreneurism and business even among the youth.” Commenting on the ambition of Mauritius to reach a student population of 100,000, she pointed out that it will implement a lot of changes, especially in the infrastructure and regulatory environment, and also a lot of marketing.

She noted a real opportunity in the business field of learning since the Mauritian economy is composed of various sectors with the setting up of a lot of financial companies. “You have got a supportive tax regime. Mauritius is a good place to come and to look into African opportunities as well, especially if you are interested at looking into the emerging economies of the continent for your students”, she explained.
