Donald Trump, president of the United States, has sought to quash the growing backlash against him over disparaging comments he allegedly made last week. “I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed. That I can tell you,” Trump told reporters during the weekend, while heading into a private dinner.
The comments attributed to Trump suggest that he described Haiti and African countries as being “shithole” countries. He allegedly made the comments during a meeting in the Oval Office with six senators. It was also reported that Trump claimed that it would preferable to have immigrants from countries such as Norway.
Trump has now even received the backing of a couple of the senators present during that meeting. “I am telling you that he did not use that word. And I’m telling you it’s a gross misrepresentation,” said Georgia Senator David Perdue. He was joined in that argument by Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton. On the other hand, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, also present at the meeting, confirmed that Trump had made the “shithole” remark.
