Mahathir Mohamad, who served as the prime minister of Malaysia from 1981 to 2003, is planning a return to politics and he has been chosen as the current opposition’s prime ministerial candidate.
Mohamed is now determined to come back to power at the expense of the ruling party, which he previously headed. In a bid to complete that return, the former prime minister has joined forces with opposition stalwart Anwar Ibrahim. The two political leaders were compelled to put behind a fractious relationship. When he was prime minister, Mohamed had Ibrahim jailed for corruption and sodomy.
Najib Razak, who is the current prime minister of Malaysia, has found himself in a tough spot recently having been embroiled in a massive financial scandal. If Mohamed comes back to power, he will be one of the oldest leaders in the world.
