Courrier des lecteurs – Fortis Darné : “Serious legal ramifications on allowing a dead body inside”
Kindly allow me to explain our position on the matter La clinique le fait poireauter pendant des heures avec le cadavre de sa femme dans la voiture. The issue is not about not having a dedicated Room or a Mortuary in our premises. We can easily have one.

We are talking about allowing a dead body brought from outside without any documentation  to be placed in our premises. This has serious legal ramifications and is not allowed as per the  law of the land. It is very much akin to someone bringing a dead body and wanting to park it in our shop/house/ business establishment for some time.

While I understand that almost all the time, these are genuine cases who have passed away while being driven to the Clinique, there is always a chance of someone playing foul, leaving a body with us and vanishing. I would surely not want any of my staff to be exposed to such a serious situation. The law which restricts us to do this, must have been framed after keeping all such possibilities in mind. As a protocol, what we do in such cases is refer the patient/body to VH Candos where the cops are called in to do the needful. I cannot agree with you more  that this act by us does seem as very non-compassionate to the general public who may not understand the finer nuances of the situation. Having said that, we will touch base with the Health Ministry to advise us or give us a leeway in this matter so that we can make it slightly less difficult for the deceased’s family.
