@Ploum Ploum, I too responded to starbright in a pique but you're more to the point. You had made him thrown in the towel which he found more honourable than being KO'd. Having drawn you into muddy waters, he's having the last laugh. Multicultural Mauritius is exemplary, unpalatable to him, he'd keep on writing using his other names as fools always return to their folly. Please be patient.

@plomploum: My understanding of" Assimilation" Is as follows;I would say something about immigrants fitting into a foreign society ( Such as Mauritius) without creating undue problems for themselves and for those already there.Well I do agree with you that " HOME" should be for all Mauritians ( 100%) without exception but you know better than me that 50% are still calling India for motherland or homeland so what do you expect from the general population? Many of them possess the PIO card without knowing that India does not allow Dual Citizenship.I've had good online contact with influenced Editorialists of both Le mauricien and L'express the last 15 years and i'm quitting for good now. I dislike than someone is picking on me all the time by calling me a " PLONKER".Why should he bother about my different nicknames? We old chatters and bloggers have done the very same all the time.Yes I'm 67 years old for your information.

@Starbright : I politely asked you for elaboration, that is, for more comments ! How could you construe my request as wanting to shut you up? Very strange indeed! Don't do a runner on us ! With all due respect Old chap( I figure out your approximate age from your various reference to your migration from Mauritius, you must be 60+ but that your age matters to me !) . You seem fixated with one specific community never missing an opportunity to "advise" them to go back to their roots if they dont like in Paradise Island! Sure, we have inter-community issues what is commonly termed as COMMUNALISM,however defined. But surely the answer to our problems and definitely Mauritianism do not rest upon demonising any ethnic group , let alone asking anyone to pack their bags and head "HOME" . Where is "HOME" , if not PARADISE ISLAND ITSELF.!!! I want a debate , a serious and civilised debate with anyone, including yourself on all SOCIAL AND POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS ISSUES facing our nascent NATION BUILDING! Show us your metal or "mange pistache guette cinema"- but to suggest that we "both" want you out of the way is preposterously insane ! Who is "both" ? There are thousands of people who who dont agree with my point of view, including Iqbal Kalla himself, but so what, life goes on. Many of my comments dont see the day ! It does not bother me. So dear Enlightened one , show us how BRIGHT your STAR is , unless of course you are but ene etoile fillante which is a nano second of brightness followed by an eternal DARKNESS !

I was just commenting the blog for the sake of free speech, nothing else.It looks like as if you both want me off here for good. Well, i'm gonna keep you satisfied. I will not write no more comments on L'express just for peace. Goodbye friends and acquaintances.

Polite request to STARBRIGHT :You see, Le Francais , moi ze parle et L'anglais , ze debrouille , ( le creole , pardon ze ve dire le KREOL je rabasse !), but be kind enough to elaborate what you mean by DIAPORAMAN? Where is home ? Which country should "they " head back with a one way ticket? And finally you have used a very interesting word " ASSIMILATE" in relation to MIGRANTS . Perhaps you could start by defining ASSIMILATION so that we can start a serious ( and civilised debate) on the elusive MAURITIAN NATION. Kindly oblige .

Hi Starbright, it matters not which identity you use, you still remain a plonker. The "Indian indentured labourers" were invited to Mauritius to work on the sugar cane plantation for the benefit of the country, due to their illeteracy, they were exploited by the "rulers" of the island. That was year 1834,today they are well-educated Indo-Mauritian.Multiculturalism is a characteristic feature of ihe island of Mauritius, it's great ,it's politically and economically stable despite its limited resources compared to its african neighbours.Your "one-way" ticket depicts your dislike for multiculturalism, but you should regard ethnicity as stupid not suicidal.

Such colonizing migrations cannot be considered indefinitely as diasporas.Over a long period , eventually the migrants assimilate into the settled area so completely that it becomes their new homeland. The African diaspora is one of the largest in the world. It is very important to remember that the Africans were brought by force to many places as slaves while the Indian indentured laborors came to Mauritius and other places as volunteers. If nostalgia was still very strong for the so-called " Diasporaman" then i suggest it's never too late to head back home with one way ticket.Mauritius will never be a nation as long as some people keep on worshipping the diasporas.
