| | | PLOUM PLOUM- PRIVATE RADIOS - OR RADIOS REKLAMS | | | @Gurudev : Do a survey and comparison of Private Radios and their commercials contents (%) in several countries . Then you talk. Also distinguish between commercials ( Reklam !) and actual Product promotions involving Sales Reps of Companies and radios Presenters both on Site ( at the radio station or at some Shopping Malls ) when more often than not, you can hear the Presenters actually leading their audiences or listeners and encouraging them to buy the promoted products. Then read the IBA Act , and we'll talk again. Ask this lady at the UOM ( Miss R. Kasenally, if I am not mistaken ) who has studied Media communications. Name me a comparable country such as USA, France or the UK, where you have anything remotely similar to our Private Radios. Finally your "R1 is a commercial radio....R1 runs commercials to give people a platform to voice their feelings..." . | | | Gurudev | | | -Ploum-Ploum is talking thru' his hat again. So the media is responsible again!!!! If this is the case, he should stop writing here then....He seems to forget that R1 is a commercial radio....R1 runs commercials to give him and his likes a platform to voice their feelings... Spot on , my Dear Democrate. This is precisely what I have been hammering for quite a while. We are in this mess because of the LIFESTYLE that is being imposed upon us. A so-called Liberal economic system which by default push towards un-warranted and un-necessary CONSUMERISM WHICH FOR MOST OF US CANNOT AFFORD , therefore forces many among us to choose a life of crimes in order to feed our excessive consumerism. Just look at the amount of aggressive marketing that we are fed on a daily basis in newspapers and the daily Products Promotions on Radio shows. Private Radios has become the euphemism for un-warranted consumerism on behalf of Big Multinationals. And they called it - FREE and INDEPENDENT MEDIA !!! | | | Baltazar | | | -Remember the song of a bad moon on the rise.No more honey moon in " Legends". I see a bad moon rising. I see trouble on the way. Don't go around, it's bound to take your life. The "Legends" is cursed for ever. Dan dizef poul pa kapav gagne ti kanar ! | | | Abdool Hamid Mosaheb | | | -Bravo Finlay! well said!
Mr Bodha needs to note on Finlay's objective reflection which is un politicised though real.
I think Finlay should give Mr Mootoosamy and others lessons in the understanding of Human Behaviours, Phenomenology or even being real to accept that they have immense problems in dealing with ever increasing crime rates in Mauritius. This Government needs to go back to basics in terms of Mauritian Moral Values. | | | Joe | | | There is not a moment that I do not think of this poor young woman whose life was taken so cruelly by those sadistic barbarians She must have been so excited to be in that local with the idyllic surroundings and a bright future ahead of love family and childen. These evil beings did not have any pity while she was pleading for her life. They must not have any pity from anyone. They must pay dearly for that heinous crime. | | | Honky Tonk | | | Any life taken away by murder is a horrific event, all the more so when it is of a young person. The loss is even more harrowing and devastating because the victim in this case was a beautiful woman who was on her honeymoon. With no better supervision and security than that the hotel deserves to go broke in my opinion. | | | PLOUM PLOUM- REPAIRING THE UN-REPAIRABLE | | | I have browsed at several British Newspaper reports on this sad incident including the populist largest selling tabloid, the Sun and viewed a couple of TV clips as well. I would conclude that by and large, the coverage has been fair, accurate and non-sensational. The sun funeral article of the 17th January attracted 19 comments online. None of them were critical of Mauritius. But there is no room for complacency. A not quite ordinary tourist with an impressive fame and reputation in her home country was murdered in our midst in broad daylight in a secured Hotel environment (unlike in a public place) but above all (allegedly) by some people who were being paid (by her and her husband- through their Hotel bills) to look after her and provide her with the comfort and customer satisfaction! This is the crux of the matter! There has been a clear absence of Due Diligence resulting in a gross act of Negligence in addition to the murder act itself.
The best tribute we can render to Michaela and her bereaved families is to quickly bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice and not allow the murder of Michaela to become a second Vanessa Lagesse case in terms of duration of court proceedings. The Irish are descent people and I don’t believe they will hold an eternal grudge against us. It was a plus that our High Commissioner attended the funeral. Every year Tourists of all countries, including British Tourists get murdered, now and then all over the world including in Japan, Italy, Spain, USA, Greece, South Africa and Thailand. And a few get murdered by their own fellow citizens while under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately in all those countries mentioned, the impact on future tourism has been negligible. The best our Tourist Authority can and should do, is NOT to spend millions on those non-ending trips abroad meeting with Tour Operators but to spend their resources in supporting the Police to combat this surge in thefts against tourists in Hotels and in the streets of the island. This is indeed “ L’arbre qui cache la Foret”. The Tourist Authority should insist that Hotels introduce Security and vetting benchmarks as a KPI’s towards achieving corporate objectives. BS 7858 is one such benchmark.
| | | Starbright | | | A British couple on honeymoon were gunned down by robbers on the Caribbean island of Antigua last year after they woke to find them ransacking their bungalow. The Robbers panicked when the couple woke up and shot them both. The Mautians robbers did not carry a gun but their intention was the very same; Kill if we are revealed ?This is first degree murder cause murder is the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. If we can't trust hotels staffs or security officer,so who the hell can we trust abroad? Can we trust the police ?.The damage is already done for Mauritius and cannot be undone and that's the fact .Your half hearted endeavour to protect the tourists or even your main economic pillar has not been satisfactory. Too many foreigners have been abused and are still being abused everyday so please face the consequences. | | | E.Go | | | The damage done is certainly beyond repair! The image of Paradise Island is tarnished and will remain so for a long time to come. This regrettable episode must serve as an eye opener to the authorities, to those directly and indirectly involved in the tourism sector and to the public at large.
1 – We must condemn the deed and the incident
2 – We must realize and admit that the place is not really that safe as we tend to make it sound
3 – We must look around for loopholes (Risk Assessment)
4 – We must consider options for plugging the holes
5 – We must decide on the appropriate options.
6 – We must implement the decisions
7 – We must monitor the results
8 – We must take actions against defaulters
9 – We must look at ways to improve the system once it has been implemented
10 – We must tell what we have done to make it safe so that, indeed, people feel safe
11 – We must make the place safe and make people feel safe
Do we realize how unsafe our island is? If we want to attract foreigners to our shore, we must first of all make it safe and attractive! Besides the legendary clichés:-
“Sand, Sun & Sea”
“Fishing & Adventure Travel “
“Para-sailing & Underwater Walking“
“Unique Fauna, Flora & Scenic nature “
“Culture & folklore “
“Excellent Climatic Conditions “
Safe and attractive also include some human factors, which is often totally missing, either because we are totally ignorant or we do not use the little brain we have:-
Honesty & Pride to be Mauritian
Safe and comfortable Facilities
Family Friendly Surroundings
Cleanliness & Tidiness
Safe & Comfortable mode of conveyance
Modernity & Cordiality
Elegance & Decency
Caring & Helpful
| | | bosquet | | | Les responsables doivent maint enant payerau prix fort. C'est normal | | | Mr X | | | Before even considering rebuilding the reputation of Mauritius it would be more appropriate to accept the negative press as we probably deserve it.
Rebuilding of the country's image will have to wait. It's all about respect for the family involved. | | | Role Model | | | Regressing back to death penalty to obviate such delicate cases is tentamount to mauritian political leaders inspiring their citizens to kill to fix whatever problem that they think can be ressolved through killing. Death being the cousin of sleep, is it not the best holiday being offered to a criminal?! I would prefer seeing them rotting in prison than enjoying such peaceful death. | | | chitchat | | | The Irish media have not been acrimonous to Mauritius since the murder of Michaela nor have they
blamed the nation for the tragedy. The victimization of Mauritians in the UK and Ireland is just
creative allegation for glittering mauritian media reporting. The postmortem on the hotels have
revealed that the management were aware of the issue of petty theft. That the waiters and service
staff worked long hours for a pittance, most had lost trust and loyalty for the administration.
The recent article of Mr Rabin Bunjhun "Au Paradis" should be ammended to "Rip Off" Mauritius. Yet
at most european travel agents glossy brochures of Mauritius are prominent on the shelves and
windows. Where's the fuss? It's reassuring to learn new hotel employees would be thoroughly vetted
with big brother 24/7 but would the old adage "You pay peanuts you get monkeys!"change for the
better?.
| | | MBCTV | | | The International Press is shocked like everybody else, particularly by the way Michaela Harte found her death. In a secure place, with 24 hour security(?) in place! It is the second case of this type in Mauritius for over thirty years. The visitors are not naive and they do factor in that petty theft must take place in hotels.Websites abound with such fracas taking place in Mauritius. Not to mention the most powerful way to propagate these delits, that is by WORDS OF MOUTH!Indeed because a person has been murdered, the idea that Mauritius is a safe place for tourism has been severely contravened....beyond repair even.True recruitment is at fault. Singapour can at least advise on death penalty! | |
