Right now, the public is rightly opposing because the VP is: 1. powerless & therefore unable to do concrete things in national interest 2. is paid by hard earned tax payers' money (not political parties' money) 3. is not elected/nominated by the people 4. gives the impression of being nominated on basis of gender (not competence) & faithfulness to Labour which should not be decisive criteria.

Monique Ohsan was very popular in the 60s. She has had a long career at the Mauritius Broadcasting corpotation and was a prominent anchor in the 1960s.Her uncle Philippe Ohsan was the master of the Police band.

| IN MEMORY OF SHERIFA DAMOO
I congratulate the PM for his choice of Monique Ohsan-Bellepeau as Vice-President. This has been a pertinent choice and politically-wise too. However, much too has been said about the first woman Labour to have been elected at the municipal elections in the 50s: Sherifa Damoo. It is surprising though that there is no testimony of her passsage in politics and even less in the Labour Party....Not even a street name or a school so that we should not forget.....Please do the needful .... |

| Navin Ramgoolam has once again shown what a great manipulator he is by his choice of VP. A leader who knows
how and when to pull the rabbit out of the hat. The choice of an Indo-Mauritian, as anticipated, the slogan
"Pouvoir dans nous la main" would have given some columnists a field day while the VP could score "nil point"
from cosmetics and fashion magazines, the opposition, the ruling coalition and the "Gregoire's" are delighted.
La Vice-Presidente, might not have a glittering CV but if she makes good use of the golden scissors allegedly
provided with the limo she'd make up for it and all good wishes to her.

Aanas is talking thru' his hat. Does he not know that Constitution prevails in all circumstances even if everybody is against this post ? The Opposition could have voted to modify this clause pertaining to the vice-presidency....

Once again, Berenger has been taken for a ride. He has been trapped doubly: by the gender and ethnicity.

Finla Salesse is right. The vice-president can give substance to her post. She may choose to sit back and relax....That will be her funeral...

Rien a dire.

Once again, Finlay Salesse has come up with a brilliant analysis loaded with inuendos and irony. Behind a compliment lies a slap. The one who has reaped political dividends is Navin Ramgoolam.

Associating the VP with with human rights (often often related to criminals), gender (about 50% of population), exclusion & poverty (not the majority working class) give a signal that she is not there for the whole nation! She could have done better by treating issues like Chagos/Tromelin to send a signal that she cares for the whole country but she has clearly missed it so far!

While debates go on about salary compensations, some symbolic anti government elements are clearly 'rejouissant' by the nomination of Monique! The political thread pullers are making them dance! The political nomination of a Labour 'fidele' is not only paying but even doing wonders even in the opposition! The undeniable facts remain same she has no power, the post is financed by hard earned tax payers' money, she has been nominated on the basis of her gender (not competence) & faithfulness to labour party (not country).

Finlay to pe perdi to letan... Aret reve kamarad. Navin finn couillone zot tou. Il tire les marrons du feu.

And what if the good lady was NOT the Vice-Presidente du Parti Travailliste? But for repeating myself, "Jobs for the Boys, now why not: Jobs for the Girls !! Enjoy your STATE RETIREMENT, miLady!! Finlay, brilliant innovative suggestions...eh..except that you forgot the post of PRESIDENT itself is ONE OF STATE RETIREMENT ONLY. Qui to pe proposer Finlay , VACHE TRAVAILLE , CHEVAL DORMI !! However, brilliantly executed POLITICAL MOVE BY NAVIN. He caught Berenger napping in broad daylight. The latter was reduced to a pathetic nod of approval.
