| The Nixon Administration was plagued by the Vietnam War and The Watergate scandal. The Carter administration had to deal with the Iranian Revolution and the hostage crisis. G.W Bush was a victim of the 9/11 terrorist attack. He sacrificed his popularity to make this world a better place to live in by his war against terrorism. How many lives have been saved by ousting the Talibans and fighting the Al Quaida? No one can answer, but many will not even think about that. Some will critise Bush because he was a fighter against Islamo facism. What Obama will become will depend on the events that will strike the world and his response. This is a kind of a lottery. |

I dont think you know the history of India or..... Mauritius well.The caste system has existed for thousands of years but more improvements have been made in the last 50-60 years than during those thousands of years.As seen with the evergrowing number of dalits and untouchables in high positions.Did you know of a certain Jagjivan Ram?An untouchable he became vice-Pm of India.
But one thing you must agree.In india and ..... Mauritius everybody is equal in front of the law and can aim at the highest position in the country. Not as in many countries where certain positions like President,Vice-President,PM.Vice-PM and others are reserved only for one particular community.And thus all the other communities become(officially) second-class citizens.
Saying all this,I still believe you are not what your name says.
Barack Obama is where he is because of hard work and perseverance.And the American system enabled him to be there.So can it be done in free democratic countries like.............India and.... Mauritius.

| Barack Obama does not have any executive record as a Senator. What he has is a cosmopiltan childhood and his Harvard degree. Granted, the guy is generating much goodwill but is is how he harness that energy which is going to determine if he can be a great leader. He has been chosen to heal past wounds but he never had to struggle as a half-black to get where he is. Obama is the symbol and the vindication of all the discrimination suffered by minorities. He has the soaring rhetorics, the youth and the charisma, or so we are told, by his press gallery and his followers. But why has the world to wait with bated breath for the guy to 'change' things shows we are not very realistic in our expectations. Did he miss the first call by doing like his predecessors with the lavish inauguration which has cost $45 million, i.e $5 million more than Bush? |

Barack Obama has impressed me in many ways. First, he is among the youngest democratically-elected President that the world has known. When he started his campaign, he knew that his ideas that are more important anything else. He has used his ideas to convince the richest and most powerful nation of our planet to vote for him.
Now he has become a source of inspiration for the world as well as to people belonging to ‘minority groups’. For too long people of ‘minority groups’ were made to believe that they cannot lead their countries. Obama has proved that wrong. He did not campaign on skin-colour issues. He has been consistent in his ideas and he has been able to seduce voters in all ‘groups’ existing in the US. I now hope that Obama will inspire capable people in Mauritius to join politics.
To the question whether “Barack Obama est-il l’homme de la situation pour les Etats-Unis et le monde?”, my answer is: ‘I sincerely hope so’. Like many people around the globe, I also have hope that he will change the world for the better. Different Presidents have not been able to solve the suffering of the innocent Palestinian citizen (including children and adult civilians and excluding terrorists). I wish Obama success here. The way economic is applied to the world is wrong. Global economy should not benefit only the richest, but should benefit each and every citizen of this planet. The world is watching Obama with much hope. Poor people in several corners in Africa and in many places in the world are looking at him with hope.
So let us pray for his success, le us pray for his wish for a better world to be fulfilled. Let us pray that everybody finds our planet a better place than it is. Let us pray for our beautiful Mauritius and for its people.
