we always say we will save nature but why they build a road which is crossing the forest starting from lesperance to camp-thorel.were the ministers blind........!!!!!! when they singed the agreement.

It seems the new Ministerial fleet of cars is top of the range petrol BMWs, not hybrids or even for fuel efficiency cars with engines of a size suited to our rather short roads; a 1600 engine is overpowered here. What should be the ideal Maurice Ile Durable choice of ministerial vehicles? Lets have a poll on that! After all we are paying for them. And why are government vehicle drivers allowed by the police to exceed the speed limit (wasting fuel) and the drivers go without wearing seat belts (risking expensive injury). We are paying for that too. Does the left hand here ever consult what the right hand is doing?

I am afraid the 'age of pessimism' has arrived! Even if a billion Buddhas accompanied by the saints and prophets arrived on this Planet, they would not be able to help mankind. They would roar: "Who is responsible for this mess?" Mankind's teeth (the toothless will suddenly find teeth in their mouths!) would start gnashing in fear and humanity would throw itself at their feet and murmur meekly: "We are!" And the reply would be: "It is your Karma, a really bad one indeed, the Ultimate Karma - extinction!" Do I hear someone squeak : "Could I have a BMW (the latest model please ) in the meantime?" One cannot separate Mauritius from The Whole. Mauritius did not cause the financial crisis but cannot not escape it. When one buys a single paper clip every human being and every atom of the universe 'know' about it, are affected by it and make the necessary adjustment. If I buy trillions and trillions of paper clips, the adjustment will be a seismic one. Every tourist leaves an indelible mark and puts pressure on our environment. Imagine what Mauritius will be like if ten million tourists visit the island every year. Every container that arrives in Port Louis brings some pollution which is stashed (should I write hidden?) somewhere on the homeland. Increase their numbers, say, just a hundred times and one is instantly transformed into a pessimist! And this is only for a small nation. Looking far far into the future, Mauritius is doomed. When the Africans next door start to make money as we started to do in the not too distant past, they will flock in their millions to spend some time in Mauritius. Most of the islands of the Indian Ocean will be consumed by the African ants. After all, if you have money you will want to spend as much time as possible in the 'paradise' nearby. And this is only the ants from the East of us.Those from the North will be more voracious because they will go after part of our soul as well. If we close the doors to protect ourselves they will break them down and eat them too! The price of mankind's lack of love for THAT which brought it into existence and sustained it, WILL be paid. There is no escape. There is no win-win situation. The latter exists only in the brains that concocted the illusion of MID. One cannot negotiate with Life.

Investing massively in expensive solar panels and wind turbines is a wastage of money while the Americans are burning the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico. To save their sea and land from pollution the Americans force the rest of the world take a share of the burden in the form of carbon gas emission.

Let’s not be eternal pessimists. Nothing wrong if the public becomes self sufficient in electrical energy or even sell it. The idea is a good one; remains to see what lies ahead behind the nice words. We must see how far the concept will reach the public in general. The government should: 1. import the necessary instruments (wind mills, solar panels heaters, solar panel generators of electricity & batteries, etc) from Asian/African markets & sell them to the public at reasonable price, eg duty free, with necessary technical assistance from the ministry concerned. The officers involved should equally receive adequately planned financial incentives. 2. stop discouraging the use of old vehicles, specially Japanese motor cycles, which are often incomparatively better than most new ones. The government should equally stop insurance companies making their own rules. For example a vehicle being found fit by government officials is not sufficient for some insurance companies to give insurance; they want to have their own assessment. Do the insurance companies not rely on the government officials? 3. the MSB should test every article before the latter enters the Mauritan market. 4. have Mauritians for innovation in the field of generation of energy.

How can Mauritius be durable when its umbilical cord is firmly embedded into this Planet which is being slowly strangled and suffocated by mankind's greed? Mankind's desires (including ours of course!) are endless. Therefore its pains must also be endless. Pains? What pains? One or two years ago a local brain swelled up and gave birth to......MID! Now we can apply a poultice of MID when the environment dares to fight back. But the harmony of Heaven and Earth has been disturbed by excessive civilisation. Do what we will there is no one in this vast universe that can prevent this angry Planet from fighting back to restore this harmony. In the process millions will die and no MID can stop this. MID is like a mosquito riding a rampaging elephant desperately trying to stop it. If one can have the widest vision possible, one will quickly see that the future of mankind is now black (koaltar!). Mankind is like the Titanic which has weighed anchor and left port. Its destination is not yet visible but it is there waiting. This destination is mankind's extinction. Life 'pou effacer refaire' with a new push of evolution towards human brain version 2.0. What am I talking about? We don't need this new version with its inevitable bugs. We already have MID!

We need radical change of mentality and we need to start thinking big rather than waste our money on small eyewash projects. We also need the right political leadership and Navin does not cut it. 'Durable' or Sustainable is not just the environment but the way of life and Navin does not understand this concept. he wants to turn Mauritius into a jardin.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

There will never be a 'Maurice ile durable'. It is too late. We have reached the point of no return and are on the path of becoming a bare rock sticking out of the Indian Ocean. MID is a slogan to appease the population especially at election time. How can we talk of durability when bulldozers are skinning our island alive everyday? Soon it will start to suffocate because not a single square inch of the island is safe from these greedy monsters. The time will come when we will pray to the trees and burn incense in front of them. I bet that in just a few more decades there will be a permanent yellow haze hanging over the island with thousands suffering from chronic respiratory problems. What a sight this will be to the tourists when the plane approaches the island. This is your captain speaking: "Please do not forget your oxygen mask when you leave the plane!".When we finish skinning the land we will start on the lagoon, digging it up for yet more hotels, IRS pied dans l'eau etc. We all aspire to live a european lifestyle (one politician told us: "mo pou faire zotte tou vine riche") but we have no natural resources to pay for it. So what do we do? We sell or lease our land for 'development' mainly to foreigners. So far no one has told us if this 'development' has a limit. Where is the longterm grand plan? Is the sky the limit and damn the consequences? But Madagascar is nearby. When we have made a mess of Mauritius we can all migrate there. The question is whether the malgaches will appreciate our messy brand of 'savoir faire'.
