From : DOWJONES. Stimulus Job Accounting is Questioned - big government economics. L’aide de l’Etat accordée à Infinity BPO. Des fonds injectés sous l’Additional Stimulus Package (ASP). la transparence s’apparente plus à de l’opacité.// Stimulus-Jobs Tally in Doubt / The Mauritius Stimulus Package somehow miss altogether the call for help from genuine candidates. As a small business owner, you don’t have time for lame duck delays during rocky economic times. What you need is cash in you pocket and an action plan for success…. so that’s what the Stimulus package not going to try and give support to you. Many people are calling on Government, blaming them for passing a stimulus package that according to them hasn’t yet turned our nation’s economy around. Even top ranking companies and small and medium sized ones took turns bashing the stimulus plan at aimed specifically at pointing out the missteps. The general mood is coming out thus: We are facing a situation where you have a very out of touch administration and majority who don’t realise the fiscal mess that they’re putting us into; but I can assure you the people are extremely frustrated and want them to stop this reckless spending. Is this what the establishment had in mind when it shackled our children and our grand children to this experiment in big government economics? Since its announcement and the subsequent implementation, this ruling regime and administration has taken us in the wrong direction. They’ve gone on an unprecedented spending spree with your tax rupees. From numerous bailouts, to the near millions rupees stimulus, to the very own inner circle recipients, Mauritian are saying enough is enough. And shockingly we hear of intentions for a second launching of another Stimulus package. The expectations of many from measures that should have been forthcoming in latest budget are in vain, for it failed to offer a menu of short-term and long-term ideas to get the economy moving in the short-term and to establish a long-term foundation for future middle-class prosperity. Every strata of society is feeling the pinch and with the keeping of residence tax, tax on interest, statutory deductions from private sector employee’s salaries, and foreboding rice price rises, and port escalating costs, the living standard keeps crumbling. The German government and German economists do not even dare seriously thinking about economic stimulus packages. In Spain, the question of economic stimulus even became a major issue in the campaign prior to the upcoming elections. Unfortunately a stimulus package in Spain risks just to cover up the country's economic problems without solving them, pretty much as co-blogger has argued for the Baltic countries. The United States revealed Mistakes in Stimulus Report under Review. The Wall Street Journal and other news organizations have found numerous mistakes in the data including recipients reporting that they had saved tens of thousands of jobs which were actually pay raises or part-time student positions. Jobs were also reported from nonexistent Congressional districts. "I think there's enough embarrassment to go round," said Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Twelve inspectors-general sit on the board. It's "clear that the job could have been done better," he said. The chairman said that recipients of stimulus money should take some of the blame for filing sloppy reports, or failing to report at all. As many as 10% of recipients are thought to have failed to file forms. It has been asked for Congress to create civil or criminal penalties for recipients who failed to file reports. For Mauritius–the words of Vice President Joe Biden must be taken as Gospel truth. Vice President Joe Biden, in a statement. "Our actions today continue the administration's commitment of going beyond 'business as usual' to develop an unprecedented system of obligating, disbursing, tracking, and reporting on the use of recovery funds."Mr. Biden has previously suggested that the reporting requirements for stimulus money could become permanent standards for how the government does business. The requirements had been "transformational.” Again in Mauritius the independent voters are marshalling that can't believe that having got a taste, as ugly as it was, of this data that people want to go back to the old way. They always said the data was going to be bad without being scrubbed for months in the bowels of Mof’s basements... The best way to improve it is to show it in its ugliest form.

The government bail-out of BPO Infinity for an amount of Rs135 millions is a clear case of crony capitalism. When the government bailed out Air Mauritius in the heels of the hedging disaster, few people disputed the fact that Government had a stake is rescuing a company where it is a major shareholder. But in the case of BPO Infinity, the government is not a shareholder and this is a private company that has made a lot of profits over the years. If it is on the brink of insolvency today, it is due to sheer mismanagement. A management audit of the company should be able to shed light on the weaknesses of the company and show how financial resources have been used over the years. More importantly, we should know what percentage of the net earnings of the company has gone into the pockets of shareholders by way of dividends in the years when the company was making profit and how much of the net earnings were retained to be reinvested in the company’s future growth. How big was the package paid to the directors in terms of salaries, bonus and other perks? I can bet that for somebody to drive an Aston Martin and to carry around a watch worth Rs 1 million, his package should be quite humungous. Why should the State now bail out a private company that obviously did not apply the principle of belt-tightening when times started getting tough? For the sake of saving 600 jobs, the government dished out Rs 135 millions to a private company. What guarantee do we have that the government would recover this money? When the DWC was found to be insolvent, the government refused to help it out although there were several options on the table to put that organization back on track. The neo-liberal ideologues of the government did not want to rescue a public organization. Now they are distributing money right and left to save those companies that are run by their friends.

Infinity Injectera Rs 45 millions.
