La facilité avec laquelle nos universitaires, postulant pour une place au sein de l’Union des étudiants de l’université de Maurice, singent les pratiques d’une classe politique elle-même patraque, n’augure rien de bon pour l’avenir.

Au-delà de la reproduction d’un certain nombre de réflexes propres au landerneau politique traditionnel, c’est le déterminisme avec lequel la superstructure politique arrive à s’imposer parmi nos jeunes qui est troublant.

C’est ce qui explique la difficulté d’un réel renouvellement de la classe politique mauricienne. Outre le fait que nos politiques viennent de certains corps de métiers spécifiques, tels les médecins, travailleurs sociaux, syndicalistes, avocats entre autres, il y a une culture de passage de témoin au sein de certaines familles, traditionnellement engagées en politique. Ce sont des fils à papa qui n’ont aucun intérêt à transformer le système.

Le mal s’empire lorsqu’on voit ce que proposent des jeunes de l’université de Maurice. Des anciens étudiants de cette université se sont effectivement engagés au sein des grands partis. On a aussi vu comment ils n’apportent rien de neuf.

A la différence d’autres pays où ce sont les grands commis de l’Etat ou des femmes et des hommes formés dans des écoles spécialisées qui nourrissent le bestiaire politique, ceux qui s’y investissent, à Maurice, sont souvent obnubilés par le prestige de voir leurs noms à côtés des dépositaires dynastiques du système politique local.

C’est aussi la raison pour laquelle, on relève le rapport dichotomique qui oppose généralement l’administration centrale et les élus. Or, la moindre des choses pour un fonctionnement efficace de l’Etat, c’est de comprendre ses mécanismes. Demandez à un médecin, à un enseignant ou à un avocat d’expliquer les appareils de l’Etat, d’y évoluer efficacement et d’établir un dialogue fonctionnel avec ce système…

Le fait que la politique n’est pas considérée comme une discipline en soi, qui requiert des compétences en administration principalement, ne peut résulter qu’en des dysfonctionnements.

Rock feller&Hope Steel, Please read this:-Only those without legs(amputees) those on crutches, those using weelchairs, wearing breathing appliances, the blind and partially sighted and those holding a parking permit for the aforementioned are allowed to use this parking area. DISABLED ONLY PARKING, would suffice

Mr. Nazim, dilo suive canal! Vous parlez de dynastie et des" fils à papa". La plus mauvaise des corruptions c'est le protectionisme (anti-meritocrate ). Pourquoi a t-on besoin de l' ICAC ? Pour dévoiler les secrets familiales ? Vous avez aussi une fois parlé d'une" poignée pensante" mais avec des étudiants " followers" la poignée devient plus maigre. Très dommage !

Vous avez entièrement raison. Notre système est victime d'un cancer et nos décideurs ne veulent pas la traiter en profondeur. Une précision cependant sur le terme 'universitaires' souvent mal utilisé par la presse locale. Un universitaire est un membre du corps académique. Il s'agit ici d'étudiants tout simplement!

More recently Edinburgh Napier University- A SCOTS University is celebrating being the first to have a Polish student president. 22-year-old Kasia, Having originally studied Business Economics at the University of Szczecin, Kasia now has a Bachelors degree in Economics with Management – with honours – to add to her impressive CV. she said: “I’m very proud of my nation and personally ecstatic because now I can do something for the students at Edinburgh Napier.”. As well as planning the university’s imminent freshers’ week, one of her main aims as student president is to bring international students like herself at the university closer together. The recently re-branded Edinburgh Napier University enjoys a healthy international reputation, with more than 2,500 international students from more than 80 countries studying. That is the model that may be emulated, use time as student president to bring people together, although university of Mauritius is very diverse it’s not integrated enough. Get into citizen-shape. Today's students are often accused of political apathy, but university lecturers from a more politically fired generation are encouraging them to become engaged and active citizens in Britain. Politics lecturers, many of whom will fondly remember engaging in political activities such as sit-ins and demonstrations against apartheid, are inviting their undergraduates to plan and organise political actions as part of a citizenship project. Politics Online Learning and Citizenship Skills (POLiS), funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, aims to promote the teaching of citizenship in higher education. One module, "Apathetic generation? Young people as citizens", asks students to investigate the opportunities that exist for them to participate politically on campus, while "Environmental citizenship" challenges them to measure their environmental impact. Traditionally, politics students have tended to be 'outsiders' looking into the system without actually recognising that they are part of the political system. It is crucial that students recognise that they are citizens and that some of the things they study have a direct resonance. Graham Smith, professor of politics at Southampton and project director, said: "The project has raised interesting questions about how to combine material effectively that increases students' substantive knowledge of debates about the nature of citizenship and requires them to reflect critically on their own attitudes and behaviours." Other disciplines are expressing interest in the project. By January, the team will have a fully developed website with a series of activities and guidance for tutors on how these can be incorporated in their teaching. Harvard Institute of Politics (IOP) was created to serve as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy and inspire Harvard students into careers in politics and public service, much as President Kennedy was inspired during his days as a student at Harvard. The IOP also brings together the academic world with the world of politics and public affairs. All of this activity occurs on a non-partisan basis with the sole aim of promoting public service. The Institute of Politics' mission is to unite and engage students, particularly undergraduates, with academics, politicians, activists, and policymakers on a non-partisan basis and to stimulate and nurture their interest in public service and leadership. The Institute strives to promote greater understanding and cooperation between the academic world and the world of politics and public affairs. Students are offered wide-ranging opportunities, including internships, prominent and diverse Forum speakers, study groups led by visiting and resident Fellows, and conferences intended to provide opportunities for interaction with the people who shape politics and public policy. In all fairness you make a convincing point. Mauritius has evolved a breed for political office, that includes losers at general election or followers of political party, whose absolute right to the highest Establishment level goes on in the way of an autocratic regime. More and more the sinister the plan is to get members of one family as subscribers of all main political groups, that mean a win win situation whatever be the outcome of the citizens voting wishes. Country Establishment occupancy of all high level posts encourages the use of stereotypes in real out of concern that these stereotypes may become self-perpetuating. Those exclusive breeds must become the consideration of all public statements and media for their intentional social impact. The exclusive breed culture promotes systemic oppression against some groups by marginalizing them and excluding them from the "norm"; the groups thus supposedly systemically marginalized are referred to as "the Other". The implication is that these groups are systemically excluded from the mainstream. “ The Other” is deemed fit only for the vote at general election, the coined phrase – putting people first is an ingenious branding marketing exercise , otherwise with implication that these groups are systemically excluded from the mainstream. Other people" is therefore deemed offensive because the order of words puts "Other" first, emphasising their difference from the mainstream, while "people first" is acceptable because putting the term "people" first emphasizes that they are people and thus does not emphasize their difference from the "norm". Some people allege that instead of encouraging supposedly marginalized groups to integrate with and assimilate into the mainstream of political culture, political exclusive breeding ironically encourages them to emphasise and indeed to wallow in their marginalization from society, and to make a public display of such. This is known as identity politics. According to this view, the common mass and ordinary are therefore encouraged to label themselves as "queer" and make public displays of "queerness" calculated to disturb the sensibilities of Other people, rather than integrate into the mainstream themselves. We should work towards a desire to redefine Mauritius as a "home" of "shared values" in which difference is balanced with an overarching common identity. Community is all-important. If only Sir William Strret would listen. Forget family political connections – political services are about people. The critique of exclusive breeding politics occupation is that it has contributed to the fragmentation of society and fostered a society where rights are claimed without a commitment to concomitant responsibilities. Today the waste of political followers in Establishment gets reveal in the National Audit Report , yet the waste are unstoppable for the will to apply sanctions are non-existent. Today the opacity into the real profile of the exclusive political breed is disturbing. They have managed to cloak their interest tentacles and their pathetic stories of having been marchand gato pima smacks too much of a bollywood scenario that made glycerin tears to impress the audience. How soon after the election the winning party distributes State establishment contracts, and the family business shifting onto the name of other family members, for the newly elected has drawn lucky ticket for becoming a minister. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"I think this must have been a mistranslation. Originally it was "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit nothing but dirt". The largest minority in this country are the masses, the average citizen. Anything they have got they worked for. The exclusive political breed was founded and started demonising the Other people. It really got into its stride and became an industry. The theory seems to be that all classes are equally valid, that people from all these classes interact on a daily basis and enrich each other. The implication has always been that mono classes societies are poor, if so that makes very large chunks of the world classes very poor indeed. The ideal of political assimilation. There is a process of mutual-adoption. A rejected citizen cannot immediately be seen as a compatriot, nor can he immediately be expected to see his country as his own. It takes time, and neither can happen in isolation. It is perhaps like when families adopting a child - unless the whole family treat the child as a full member, the child will feel an outsider; but this is difficult if the child does not respond in kind. With multi-political assimilation we must sought to treat everyone unconditionally as our compatriots, but run away from making any claims at all on their patriotism. I know it is a red rag to a bull to raise the "cricket test", but it is hard for many in the country to see compatriots when having to bear the cross of deliberate rejection through all life strata’s clearly feel greater love and loyalty for their "nation-and-kin". We can see fellow citizens - but only insofar as citizenship represents a legal relationship between state and citizens. Insofar as belonging to the same country represents something more emotional and a sense of solidarity, it is lacking when a group's patriotism is clearly focused elsewhere. Almond and Verba (1965) coined the term participant political cultures to distinguish the political cultures of different nations. Political culture refers to the attitudes, values and orientations that citizens have about politics and how it affects political behavior. Almond and Verba concluded that political culture matters even though other scholars argue that institutions are more important. one must distinguish between the concerns with cultural assimilation and national identity on the one hand, and those with political assimilation on the other. ... "
