Lorsque je lis certains commentaires de quelques internautes, je reste dubitatif sur le sens d’une affiliation politique.
Je peux comprendre qu’on puisse être ramgoolamiste ou bérengiste. Mais pas qu’on puisse être aveugle au point de suivre un homme de manière inconditionnelle.
Nous composons, à Maurice, avec un système atypique. A la différence de nombreux pays, nous n’avons pas des professionnels de la politique. Il suffit, chez nous, pour caricaturer, d’être médecin, enseignant, avocat, travailleur social… et surtout fils de politique, pour devenir soi-même politique. A ce registre, Paul Bérenger et Anerood Jugnauth sont parmi les rares politiques contemporains à pouvoir s’enorgueillir d’être des politiques qui se sont faits eux-mêmes.
Mais il ne s’agit pas d’eux ici. Il est question de ces personnes qui deviennent fans, suiveurs et membre d’un secte parce qu’ils vouent une admiration sans limite aucune à un homme politique. De véritables fanatiques de Navin, Paul ou Pravind. A ces fanatiques, je dis: «Ne vous offusquez pas si je les ai aligné dans cet ordre. C’est juste cité en ordre alphabétique.»
Aussi longtemps que nous serons de serviles victimes d’une starisation politique, nous n’aurons des politiques que ceux que nous méritons.
Vous savez quoi? En fin de compte, je pense que, comme le disait ce véritable génie qu’est Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, il est si facile d’être le roi des médiocres… | |

Alors, si les acteurs sociaux (assos socio-culturelles, les journalistes, les ONG, les Syndicats, les artistes etc..) se mobilisent pour exiger lors des prochaines élections que des mesures soient prises pour combattre la corruption et les préférences dans les institutions - on peut commencer à espérer vaincre ce mal. Par exemple, et très concrètement, pourquoi ne définit-on pas des règles claires, transparentes et comptabilisables (par tous) pour le recrutement dans le secteur publique?? Avec, un système de pointage - comme au décathlon en sport - pour la force policière et des examens d'entrée pour les infirmiers et profs etc... avec des tests et résultats exposés au grand public?? Puis, donner des outils au judiciaire pour facilement élucider toutes discriminations?? Plein de pays le font, pourquoi pas à Maurice?? Ne me dites pas que c'est trop difficile - en tant que journaliste indépendant du plus grand agence de presse de Maurice - vous avez le pouvoir et le devoir de contester, d'exiger et de proposer pour aider à éliminer les injustices, la fraude et la corruption! Yet, Khatami ran a compaign on the strength of ubiquitous posters showing him side by side with Mousavi. In other words, Khatami was telling Iranais that, by electing him, they were, in essence, electing Moussavi. Khatami won by a landslide.
In the elections next month, Khatami has withdrawn his candidacy in favour of Mousavi.

• LOOK much beneath the veneer, and then the answers would rise to the surface. Mauritius trample in the complacency mode for this is considered to be the way of going about in life. I can understand the astonishment in finding the cases of people acting like a herd – but the cause lies in the years of perpetual indoctrination of ever bowing down to those that master resources and utmost parochial to subdue a nation.
• As an example let’s take the case of the National television during yesterday’s post budget debate. Hats off the lady entrepreneur, for she is like us someone that struggle through daily work chores and has the feet on the ground. She spells out in most brilliant form the neat budget 2009 package. In her down to earth mind set she lays her finger on what the whole country keeps churning in their minds- we all want progress, social harmony, job security and will the politicians in power, the state institutions have the stamina to execute the budget measures. Characteristically she hinted that job secured bureaucracies would keep files unattended and time moves on without anything constructive ever come to fruition.
• The rest of the panel laid their views but their words and comments never strike a resonance in the viewer’s psychic. Why? The debate on the budget be it from the TV presenters to the Director of the Development Bank, the Head of Economic department at University of Mauritius, and trade Unions – needs plain truth speaking, and a link to the actual life conditions of citizens in the country. On the screen the participants kept the velvet glove, it was like watching the crème de la societe at one big prestigious race horse course. Such a group never understands the citizens concerns, everything that focus on the pressures and inefficiencies in the system are to be censored and termed as unnecessary debate , not worth for analysis .
• Shocking that the director of development bank of Mauritius stated that the budget deficit is attended internally through the selling of treasury bills and other financial instruments. The gentlemen should have dwell on the years of inefficiencies that the Bank of development been entangled. The solution of raising funds through sale of treasury bills , this is unpalatable for it only means capturing the country financial resources to alleviating the budget deficit burden. Would these financial investments be directed towards sound projects, the country would then show ability to cope on its own merits.
• Shocking that the Unions representative remarked that they would wait and see the developments in the forthcoming 6 months to witness whether government would stick to its plans. Again the Trade Unions inactivity and getting in the entire of a regulator tantamounts to sitting idle , and only making noise and thunder for some few times.
• Shocking that sithanen should get into fits and thunder during budget 2009 debate. The nation is aversed to mentioning what the opposition did when they were at the helm. What matters is today’s business. It was sithanen that acted like the maestro for labour campaign; he walked from door to door with cheese box to impress about his inacceptance of high price for basic commodities and our poor level of pay. He displayed himself as an avant garde politicians and one with minds and vision on immediate issues. Today the poor chap is unfolding himself as an history archive director, leveling on matters about previous government while he takes home pay of several thousands of rupees. Waste of time when the country requires action and sounds delivery for securing the people bread and butter.
• As for the National Television Corporation don’t they have their very own editorial comments on the Budget? Why is it that they stand placid and leave the floor to lullaby budget endorsements followers? The written press has opened its columns to a wide spectrum of commentators for the budget 2009. The private radio got into the act with diverse platforms of commentators. The National Broadcasting Corporation seems insipid and never brought into the programme on Budget 2009 the ones that these measures matters most- the citizens of this country. Having those same club boys and these same repeating the chorus version that the Budget is the one all cure , even if that be the case, others should be allow to have their say.
• On another front, I do not understand how the Director of the Mauritius sugar bulk terminal be found guilty, and the mismanagement be debated in parliament by other opposition parties, and the minister walk away like white snow.
• Communications is vital- and for a country to shed any form of direct or subtle dictatorship, that freedom to debate and exchange of views can only come from important stakeholders like a free press, a private television, and the allocation of State funds without ant strings attached. The Mauritian Diaspora in Britain ever condemns the selective pickings of government notices advertisements to a few press publications. The case of not comprehending the course of Government action on such an important issue is only a preliminary issue, for our want of freedom within a decent framework make us search for the real reasons behind much of state ways of doing things.
• Not being able to understand – this is a formidable description of the people reactions when confronting forces that whirlwind without basic intellect, intelligent emotions, and downright basics commonsense. Then it must not stay that way- for the obvious want of living a life with basics needs the necessary changes must be brought. It is never easy, but surely through the available channel- like the Blogs and forum spaces in Lexpress , a force of nemesis is in action. It is such opportunity that in time will make the moulds of long decades of imposed thoughts be undo and the oppressors and their followers run for the light will shine more vividly.
• We are not weather forecasters like sithanen to talk about Calm Ocean – though it be sufficient that we make our way through more enlightened mode and genuinely makes understanding smoother –that would serve us all more beneficially.
