Together with the people and for the people

The 2014 General elections are well over and the people’s verdict is now known. The people have placed their full trust on “Alliance Lepep “with a significant majority of 47 against 13 returned candidates for the other. The Alliance Lepep made a spectacular leap in popularity level, out of a simple, serious and sincere campaign which has touched the core of the electorate to create the wave “ VIRE MAM “ , echoed in every nook and corner of the country to win these elections with a National average of more than 50%. This electoral victory is after all, the victory of the people who have faith in the “ Alliance Lepep ” to bring them hopes and fulfil their dreams for a better living. It was a massive victory over abuse of power, arrogance, hypocrisy and selfishness. The “Alliance Linite et Modernite “ led by the infernal duo , which thought of the people as fixed deposits , boasted around during the campaign and until the eve of the elections that they were winning 60-0. The results prove the dual inferno and their Alliance team, totally wrong. Their National average score of about 39% is very far from their 60% or more which they claim they jointly have. Through these elections, the people have shown that they are not fixed deposits and that they have the real power in their hands to sanction those who deceive them, those who take them for granted, those who alienate them in favour of few privileged ones. “TO FANE TO TASSE “ seems to have been the response of the people. After their “ koze …koze , ON/OFF, kole…kole “the dual inferno could not have the courage to look at them in a “ face a face”, instead they choose to break the Alliance and indulge in a “back to back” blame game. The fact remains that the two leaders in that dual inferno were both rejected massively by the people for their proposed constitutional 2nd republic, their conduct during their “ koze…koze”, wide range of scandals in the public management and their unconvincing manifesto which lack any creativity. In other democracies, with such level of defeat, the leaders would have resigned for their respective parties to take freely the appropriate decisions.

On the other hand, Sir Aneerood  Jugnauth (SAJ), leader of “ alliance Lepep”, plebiscited largely by the people ,very humbly with a renewed vigour, is taking with his team, the challenging task of cleaning the system of its rots, reconstructing the pillars of the economy and consolidating the democracy with principles of accountability , governance and participation.  The time now compels us to look ahead to implement the program the people have voted for, to meet the legitimate expectations of the people and for the politicians to fulfil the promises of proximity with their constituents. The time is also to look beyond partisan politics and as true patriots and as one nation; we work together, towards strengthening further unity out of the diversity of talents and origins of the people. Time has come also for the newly elected ones and nominees to take firm commitments to work towards the common interests of the people and to respond to the wants of the people, in a spirit of transparency and accountability rather than satisfying their own selfish interests. By making them accountable through regular feedback mechanisms, this will help to keep the politicians close to the electorate’s demands with high degree of fulfilment. The new team and the political nominees should inhale in them a sense of responsibility and understanding that the people have brought them to run the affairs of the country in order to bring the country on top and that they should collectively as a team work for the common good.

Many great visionaries in the world are remembered for good as a result of their loyalty, patriotism, integrity and personal sacrifice to ensure the well-being of the masses. SAJ who gave up without hesitation, the supreme post of President to actively campaign against the dangers of the dualistic power sharing semi-presidentialism and to bring new hopes for the people, will undoubtedly be remembered for good for the 2nd economic miracle which he wants to leave as a legacy to the people and the generations to come, during this mandate. He will do it together with the people and already there is a “feel good factor “among the people and the “RYE MAM “ be the living motto during this mandate for one and all. We need to see the RIGHT PERSONS IN THE RIGHT PLACES, right type of leadership to occupy the public offices as custodians of the people’s mandate to serve them, manage the resources and assets for the betterment of the society and uphold what is best for the people. It is appreciative that a ministry of Good Governance is created to ensure that effective control mechanisms be established in various public sectors to deliver excellence in the public goods and services ,eliminating those malpractices, maladministration , wastage and poor governance .

The people want to see a caring  government which acts not only with the mind but with the heart also. The Government has to balance between the requirement for the respect and adherence of the laws and that of the availing opportunity of listening, understanding the people’s issues prior to choosing what is best for all parties. Social dialogue should be a permanence to facilitate mutual understanding, develop creative solutions for the people to act freely, make voluntarily choices in the kind of life they want to live, the goals to pursue, the values to hold and the peaceful means to attain them. In this context, the appeal to the Sugar Producers to reconsider their stand in the resolution of the issue during the period of the legal strike is a genuine initiative and it is hoped that a sense of patriotism prevails to open up new avenues of cooperation in this sector in the future.

The religious and socio-cultural groups should be curtailed to play a passive role, more so that many of their “ mots d’ordre “ were meaningless , indicating their insignificance in political grounds. Their role should be limited to promote moral values within their religions to help in the promotion of peace and unity. The state on the other hand, must keep its neutrality from those socio-cultural groups for the sake of peace, dignity, liberty and equality.

This government has a clear mandate from the people to bring about the changes necessary to modernise our economy for higher Productivity, better Governance, sustainable economic growth and more welfare. People will judge this government for the concrete work done but not for its intentions.  We have no reasons to believe that the leadership team will keep their words to avail themselves of the best competencies and talents to work and walk together with the people to achieve the vision so that all the country and its people come out as a winner.
